Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)
The British Embassy in Ankara is part of a world-wide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to hire a Programme Support Officer for the Justice and Home Affairs Team (JHA) for a maternity cover.
The purpose of this role is to provide programme support, linguistic skills and cultural advice to the Justice and Home Affairs Team’s counter-terrorism and security programme.
The successful jobholder will support the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) Liaison Prosecutor, Counter-Terrorism Police Liaison Officers (CTPLOs), Counter Terrorism/Extremism Network Officer (CTEN) and wider JHA team in their delivery of their counter terrorism (CT) programme and broader CT agenda, namely:
- Support management and delivery of CT projects & lead on management of programme financial reporting and performance monitoring;
- Provide full range of administrative support to the JHA team in delivering programme work, such as arranging visit programmes, booking travel and accommodation;
- Translate documents, attend meetings and training courses as an interpreter or notetaker for JHA team and occasionally on behalf of embassy colleagues;
- Prepare reports and conduct research on behalf of JHA team on counter terrorism and counter extremism related topics, including legislation and Turkish policy;
- Liaise with partners across the Embassy and Turkish authorities.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
- Fluency in Turkish and English (both oral and written);
- Ability to interpret and translate documents from Turkish to English and vice versa;
- Ability to work under pressure, manage own workload effectively and meet tight deadlines;
- Willingness to regularly travel and attend meetings and training in both Turkey and the UK, sometimes at short notice;
- Good IT skills (MS Office and databases);
- Excellent interpersonal skills;
- Previous experience of project and financial management.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
- General understanding of the political situation in Turkey;
- University degree or equivalent in related topic.

- This is a full-time contract for a maternity cover, for 5 working days (36.25 hours net) per week.
- The monthly salary for this position is 2,602.41 USD gross B3 level. Please note that staff members are responsible for paying any income tax required by local law.

- The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check, security clearance and a probation period of 2 months.
